FINA World Championships Barcelona 2013:: Olympic gold medalist USA beats reigning world champion Greece in Barcelona 2013 blockbuster

POLO AIR INDONESIA-Water Polo was the fourth aquatic sport to kick off at the 15th FINA World Championships today. The women’s teams opened the floor while the world’s best men’s teams will start competing on Monday. Many fans at the Picornell Pool watched the highlight of the day as current Olympic champions USA faced reigning world champions Greece. The women’s water polo tournament kicked off today at the Picornell Pool featuring top encounters in the morning such as Russia v Uzbekistan (22-6), Australia v New Zealand (15-4), China v South Africa (17-2). The big highlight of the day was the match between the USA and Greece (12-8). One year after achieving the gold medal at the London Olympics, the American squad was too strong for Greece.
Greece surprised the U.S. team at the start of the first quarter, taking a 2-0 lead. Although the Americans came back strong netting three consecutive goals (3-2), Greece stayed in the game, tying for 4-4 and 6-6. Before the end of the third quarter, the USA scored twice for an important 8-6 lead.
Maggie Steffens scored three goals in the end, leading her team to victory at the Picornell Pool. Greek players Christina Tsoukala and Antigoni Roumpesi marked three goals for their side.

In the last match of Day 1, host nation Spain saw off the Netherlands in an exciting game 14-12.
